Utah Grizzlies News Release
West Valley City Utah - The Utah Grizzlies (5-5-1-2) defeated the Ontario Reign (7-5-0-2) 1-0 Monday night at Maverik Center before 5,350 fans to take two of three from the Reign in the series.
The Grizzlies improved to 3-1-0-2 in their last six games.
Utah goaltender Ryan Faragher stopped all 23 shots he saw for his first professional shutout as he improved to 1-0.
"The guys were selling out all night," said Faragher. "We were just waiting for the goal to come and when it did we knew we just had to shut them down from there. The guys played really hard in front of me and it made it a little easier."
"I thought it was a solid team effort by everybody," said Grizzlies Head Coach/General Manager Tim Branham. "Guys were blocking shots, fighting, doing the little things it takes to win and that's good to see. We were very opportunistic offensively."
T.J. Syner's fourth goal of the year with 4:11 left in the second period was the only goal the Grizzlies needed as Mike Colavecchia and Myles Harvey worked hard to keep the puck in as they drew assists. Connor Hardowa and Alex Krushelnyski both were on the ice as well.
"We need more traffic in front, that's where you're going to score those dirty goals," said Syner. "You have to continue it all throughout the year if you want to be a contender for a cup. We're just trying to build and it's crazy what confidence can do in this league. Guys are shooting the puck and playing the puck with confidence and you see a whole new team when you start doing that."
In the third, the Grizzlies killed a late penalty as their second-best ECHL penalty-kill went 3-3. Ryan Faragher made a couple of big saves in the final minutes.
The Grizzlies are back home Monday, December 1 with Idaho at 7 p.m. for another Maverik Monday. Fans presenting their Maverik Adventure Club Card will get tickets buy one get one free.
