Stockton Thunder News Release

Stockton, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL's New York Islanders and AHL's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, have received defenseman John Ryder from the Allen Americans in exchange for forward Jessey Astles.

Ryder, 25, began his pro career in 2012-13 with the Idaho Steelheads before splitting last season with the Colorado Eagles and Ontario Reign. During the offseason, Ryder signed with the then Central Hockey League's Allen Americans where he has played 7 of his 103 career ECHL games.

The Colorado Springs, Colorado native played 50 games in the USHL with the Ohio Blue Jackets before heading to the University of Denver in 2007-08 where his team became the WCHA Champions. The following four years of his career Ryder was named to the NCAA (WCHA) All-Academic Team.

Astles, 21, also played in 7 games this season with the Thunder in his rookie season. The Coquitlam, British Columbia native played 229 games in his WHL career with the Kelowna Rockets, Saskatoon Blades and Tri-City Americans, racking up 18 goals and 20 assists along with 351 minutes of penalties. In his first pro games, Astles has been held pointless and picked up a minor penalty.

The Thunder return home for Star Wars Night on November 22. Tickets are still available for one of the most fun promotions of the season. To purchase tickets, set up groups, or for ticket information call (209) 373-1500 or visit StocktonThunder.com.
