Anchorage, Alaska - The Alaska Aces defeated the Utah Grizzlies 5-3 Friday night in Alaska.

Utah built a 3-0 first period lead starting the scoring off as Tom May knocked in a rebound 3:20 into the opening frame for his 13th goal of the year. The Grizzlies made it 3-0 on a beautiful centering attempt by Hugo Carpentier as he drove towards the net and found Kinasewich for another one.

In the second, Alaska inched back into the contest with a pair of power-play goals. The frame ended with a melee in the Aces end that started when former Grizzlies forward Evan Kotsopoulos slashed Utah goaltender Beau Erickson and both benches cleared. When all was sorted out, two Grizzlies and three Aces were assessed game misconducts and the team's played the third period short.

Alaska tied and took the lead with two Alexandre Imbeault goals (2:39, 4:42) in the first five minutes of the frame and the Aces would never look back. The Grizzlies battled back, setting up several quality scoring chances before Alaska picked up a turnover at 10:04 and made the contest 5-3.

Utah went 0-4 on the power-play, while the Aces went 3-4.

Utah completes their trip in Alaska Saturday. Face-off is again scheduled for 9:15 p.m.
