
Jackals overcome Florida

ELMIRA, NY-- The Elmira Jackals overcame the Everblades in the third meeting between the Florida Everblades and the Elmira Jackals. The Jackals took an early lead in the first off of goals from Justin Donati and R.J. Anderson. Mathieu Roy brought Florida within one at 2:47 before Tyler Donati and Yannick Tifu made it 4-1. Paul Healey, Colin Nicholson and Mathieu Roy all scored to make it 4-4 and the game was decided in a shootout. Elmira took the victory 5-4 with the Donati brothers scoring in the shootout.
The first stanza opened with Elmira beating net minder Chris Beckford-Tseu. The goal was scored by Justin Donati and was assisted by Jarrett Konkle and former Everblade Yannick Tifu. The âBlades did well defensively the rest period until with 51 seconds remaining R.J. Anderson took a pass from Justin Donati and Yannick Tifu to notch a second maker on the board and make it 2-0 in favor of Elmira.
Florida looked to make a comeback in the second. Mathieu Roy scored to shorten Elmira's lead to one at 2:47. Elmira answered with two more goals from Tyler Donati and Yannick Tifu. Mike Morrison came in relief of Chris Beckford-Tseu and with the score at 4-1 Florida was looking for an offensive boost. The answer came in the form of veteran Paul Healey. Healey took a pass from Scott Hotham and new comer Bryan Leitch to shorten the gap to 4-2.
Colin Nicholson began the Everblades quest for a come back in the third period. Ernie Hartlieb took a pass from Chris Capraro and fed the puck to Colin Nicholson who beat goalie Julien Ellis to make it 4-3. Mathieu Roy continued his excellent play and scored the equalizer at 17:35 to force a sudden death overtime.
Neither team scored in the overtime session and the game was decided in a five round shootout. Colin Nicholson scored in the shootout for Florida while Justin Donati and Tyler Donati scored in the shootout and Elmira took the game 5-4.
