Reading Royals News Release

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League and the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League, today announced that the team has signed forward Travis Whitehead ["WHITE head"] to an ECHL contract. In a separate transaction, forward Marc Cavosie has been returned to the Royals from the Albany River Rats of the AHL.

Whitehead (6'1/203) (25), who hails from Cambridge, Ontario, played seven games this season with the Fort Wayne Komets of the International Hockey League, scoring a goal and picking up four penalty minutes. Whitehead, who played three seasons at Buffalo State College, became the first Bengal in school history to make an AHL roster, when he signed a Professional Tryout Agreement with the Norfolk Admirals in October. After being released by Norfolk, Whitehead joined the Komets, who released him in late November. During his time at Buffalo State, Whitehead scored ten goals and assisted on fifteen others (twenty-five points) and picked up eighty-one penalty minutes in seventy-six total games. Cavosie, who was loaned to the River Rats on January 6, played two games with Albany and picked up an assist in the River Rats' 4-3 overtime loss to the Adirondack Phantoms last Wednesday. In fifteen games with the Royals this year, Cavosie has registered twelve points (4g-8a).

The Royals return to the ice tonight (Saturday, January 9, 2010 @ 7:05) when the Cincinnati Cyclones visit the Sovereign Center for the only time during the 2009-10 regular season. The Royals game night broadcast on the Royals Radio Network presented by Transmissions by Arbogast will kick off with the pre-game warm-up show at 6:35 pm.
