
Campbell and Johnson Combine for Eight Points in 6-5 OT Loss to Gladiators

Duluth, GA -The South Carolina Stingrays (25-8-2-4) fell 6-5 in overtime to the Gwinnett Gladiators (16-13-2-2) at The Arena at Gwinnett Center Saturday night. Stingrays forwards Keith Johnson (2g, 2a) and Trent Campbell (4a) each scored four points in the loss.

The Gladiators started the scoring at 8:28 of the opening period with a tally from left-winger Adam Berti. Rookie Drew Paris picked up the lone assist. Gladiators forward Jason Lawrence put Gwinnett up 2-0 at 11:51 beating Stingrays goaltender Shane Connelly high glove-side with a wrist shot from the bottom of the left-wing circle. Center Chris Higgins earned the only assist. The Stingrays cut the lead in half one minute later thanks to Johnson's 14 goal of the season at 12:51 from Campbell and defenseman Nate Kiser.
Six goals highlighted the second period with the Stingrays taking a 5-4 lead into the intermission. Johnson scored his second goal of the night for the Stingrays at 3:19 from Campbell to tie the game at two. Defenseman Dylan Yeo gave South Carolina their first lead of the contest with a short-handed goal at 7:49 from Trevor Bruess and Campbell with Kiser serving a two-minute minor for holding. The Gladiators tied the game at three off a deflection from forward Daniel Sullivan at 9:40 from defenseman Scott Marchesi and Michael Forney.
Gladiators forward Matt Siddall continued the scoring at 12:57 to reclaim a one-goal lead. Scott Mifsud recorded the only assist. The Stingrays made it 4-4 at 14:24 off a drive from rookie Rob Ricci. Bruess and defenseman Josh Godfrey both netted helpers. Stingrays rookie Jake Hauswirth finished the period scoring at 17:38 from Campbell and Johnson to give the Stingrays the lead at the end of 40 minutes of play.
The Gladiators scored the only goal of the third period to tie the game at five. Mifsud knocked in a loose puck between the legs of Connelly along the top of the crease at 10:37 from Aaron Brocklehurst. The game quickly moved into overtime where Gwinnett's Sam Roberts blasted a shot over the glove of Connelly from the left-wing circle for the game-winner at 2:14 from Siddall. Connelly finished the night stopping 37 of 43 Gladiators shots while Taylor received his eighth win of the season pushing aside 40 of 45 Stingrays chances. Both teams finished the night 0-for-3 on the power play.
