Constant Is Co-Winner Of ECHL Plus Performer Award

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder, a proud affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers of the National Hockey League and Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League, announced in conjunction with the ECHL that defenseman Ryan Constant (KAWN-stant) has been named co-recipient of the AMI Graphics ECHL Plus Performer of the Month award, finishing December by tying the ECHL lead in the month with a plus-minus rating of +9.

The first recipient of the monthly award in Thunder history, Constant shared the award with three other players - forwards Ben Gordon of the Reading Royals, Trent Campbell of the South Carolina Stingrays and Chris Capraro of the Wheeling Nailers.

Constant, 24, was even or better in eight games and had an assist in five games, tying him for the team lead for the month with five assists. He was +3 or better in two games and had an assist in a 5-4 win over Alaska on Dec. 12 and earned his 10th point of the season with an assist in the Thunder's 5-1 win over Idaho on Dec. 31.

The 5-foot-11, 200-pound defenseman is tied for first on the team with a plus-minus rating of +6 and is second among Stockton defensemen with 11 points (2g-9a).

He has played four seasons in the ECHL beginning as a rookie in 2006-07 and has 64 points (12g-52a) and 274 penalty minutes in 194 regular season games and three assists and 21 penalty minutes in 22 Kelly Cup Playoff games with Stockton and Charlotte.

A member of the Opaskwayak Cree Nation in Manitoba, he has also played in the AHL where he has three points (1g-2a) and 17 penalty minutes in 26 games with Hartford and Springfield.
