Ontario, California - The Ontario Reign (30-12-2-3) defeated the Utah Grizzlies (22-17-3-5) 3-2 in a shootout Sunday afternoon at Citizens Business Bank Arena.
The Grizzlies battled back from a 2-0 deficit and Aaron Dell stopped 26 of 28 shots as the Grizzlies earned a standings point for the 20th time in 23 games since Christmas. Ontario scored in the first and late in the second to take a 2-0 lead before Jamie MacQueen's 16th of the year on a five-on-three power-play with four seconds left in the second period made it 2-1 going to the third. David Vallorani and Vinny Scarsella picked up assists.
In the third period, David Vallorani tipped home the equalizer for his 17th goal of the year with 10:22 left in regulation. Danick Paquette and Phil Mangan picked up assists on the play after keeping the puck alive in the Ontario zone.
The Grizzlies killed a penalty in the final four minutes of regulation to keep the score 2-2 and again killed off a shorthanded situation late in overtime.
