TONIGHT:
The Ontario Reign (29-12-2-3) will host the Utah Grizzlies (22-17-3-4) in hopes of ending their three-game losing streak before a home crowd. This season these two teams have only met three times and the Reign have a 1-1-0-1 record against the Grizzlies. Last year the Reign ended the season with a 3-1-0-1 record against Utah, and when they met in the first round of the 2013 Kelly Cup Playoffs, the Reign swept the series for the first time in team history, and moved on the second round for the first time in team history.
LEADERBOARD MATCH-UP:
The Grizzlies and Reign leading scorers have very similar stats. The Reign's top three scorers (Lamoureux-35, White-31, Newton-29) each have just one point on the Grizzlies top three scorers (Vallorani-34, Aubin-30, Pelech-28) and their fifth top scorers both have 25 points (Paquette and Couture-25).
GRIZZLIES HEATING UP:
Utah has been on a hot streak since the start of 2014 with a 12-3-2-1 record good for 27 points in 19 games. Just before the end of 2013, the Grizzlies were stuck in a six-game losing streak against Alaska and Bakersfield and they have only seen Western Conference losses to Idaho, Stockton (shootout loss), and Las Vegas (shootout loss). Utah is currently on a two-game winning streak with hopes of rebuilding their streak for another club record.
REIGN HOLDING THEIR SPOT:
Although Ontario hasn't been able to take a big leap in the standings, the Reign remain tied for the league-lead with 63 points. Since the beginning of January, the Reign have an 8-7-1-0 record with 51 goals-for, an average of 3.18 goals-for per game which is slightly better than the team's overall 3.04 goals-for per game average this season.
