Kalamazoo Wings News Release

Fort Wayne, IN - Suffering their first loss in the month of February, the Kalamazoo Wings dropped a 5-2 decision Sunday night against the Fort Wayne Komets at Allen County Memorial Coliseum.

Earning their league-best 11th shorthanded goal of the season, Kalamazoo took a 1-0 lead 12:22 into the period with a breakaway marker from Justin Taylor (10th). Taylor's goal was his team-leading third shorthanded goal of the season.

The shorthanded goal was also the first special teams tally of the season for Kalamazoo against Fort Wayne.

Responding right away, Chris Auger evened the game at 1-1 just 1:05 later with his 20th goal of the season.

Recording the lone goal in the middle stanza, Matt Carter (13th) gave the Komets the lead by slipping past the K-Wings defense and lifted in a backhander over the left shoulder of Jordan Binnington.

Auger (21st, 22nd) helped the Komets pull away in the third period netting back-to-back goals in a span of five minutes near the midway part of the period.

Kalamazoo snapped a 0-for-27 drought with a man-advantage against Fort Wayne late in the third with a tally from Yannick Veilleux (7th), who extended his point streak to three games with the marker.

Just like they did in the first period, the Komets responded right after the K-Wings goal with a strike 42 later from Christian Ouellet (6th).

The K-Wings will begin a brief two-game home stand this Friday, February 14th with a 7:30 p.m. face-off versus the Toledo Walleye during the 14th annual Pink Ice Valentine's Day Game.
