Utah Grizzlies News Release

Houston, Texas - The Utah Grizzlies snapped Houston's strong hold over them on Sunday with a 4-2 victory in the Compaq Center. Greg Hawgood scored a goal and had two assists, while Corey Hirsch turned aside 22 shots gaining his 13th victory of the season.

Utah took the lead in the first period when David Gosselin scored on the power play giving the Grizzlies the 1-0 advantage. Hnat Domenichelli tied the game for Houston just over a minute later with his 28th goal of the season. Utah struck back though again on the power play when Justin Cox banged home a hard-working goal with some help from Jeff MacMillan and Hawgood. Utah led 2-1 after one period.

In the second period, Utah's Jim Montgomery set up what turned out to be the game winning goal as he found Hawgood streaking down the right side of the ice unmolested. The former Aero made a great move getting the only defender out of the way and beat Derek Gustafson giving the Grizzlies a 3-1 lead. Curtis Murphy scored his 22nd goal of the season later in the second period pulling the Aeros to within a goal after two periods of play.

The third period saw each team struggle for scoring opportunities and saw Barrett Heisten score the only goal on the power play and into an empty net putting the game away for Utah.

The Grizzlies outshot the Aeros 37-24 on the night and went 3 for 7 on the power play.

Along with Hawgood's three points, Jim Montgomery contributed two assists.

Three Stars: 1. Greg Hawgood (UT) 2. Hnat Domenichelli (HOU) 3. Corey Hirsch (UT)

Next Game: The Grizzlies will take on Grand Rapids Griffins on Wednesday night at the E-Center. Face-off is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
