March 9, 2013 - ECHL (ECHL)
Utah Grizzlies News Release
West Valley City, Utah - The Utah Grizzlies defeated the Colorado Eagles 5-4 Saturday night at Maverik Center before 5,626 fans.
Utah led 2-0 in the second period and 3-2 entering the third, before breaking open a 3-3 game with two goals in 25 seconds to build a 5-3 lead in the third period.
Five different Grizzlies scored goals and Utah goaltender Adam Morrison stopped 38 of 42 shots in the win. 11 of Utah's 16 skaters scored in the contest and Colin Vock (one goal, one assist), Tommy Maxwell (one goal, one assist) Gaelan Patterson (two assists) and Adam Estoclet (two assists) all had multiple-point nights.
"Big goals from five different guys and that's the depth we're going to need to be successful," said Grizzlies Head Coach Kevin Colley. "We got good goaltending, it was team effort. The only downfall is that we can't be giving up four goals, we need to tighten up, play with more pride in that area and help each other out."
Jimmy Martin (6) gave Utah a 1-0 lead with 4:22 left in the first period as Gaelan Patterson, Tommy Maxwell and David Eddy battled, forced the puck free and found the defenseman on the point.
Utah made it 2-0 4:53 into the second period as Berkley Scott fed Sebastien Trudeau for his first goal in Utah after being acquired from San Francisco Tuesday.
After two quick goals by Colorado, Utah came back up ice with 3:15 left in the second period; with Colin Vock and Adam Estoclet finding Jordan Clendenning for his first goal in Utah after being acquired in the same trade.
Colorado tied it at 3 5:05 into the third, but Utah came back with 2 goals in 25 seconds starting 7:35 into the period as Colin Vock tipped in his team-leading 21st goal on a shot by newcomer Cody Carlson, who has now scored in two-straight games.
After Colorado made it 5-4 with 5:18 left in the third, Utah held on with some late saves by Morrison to lock down the win.
The Grizzlies host Colorado again Sunday at 4 p.m.
