Countdown to Face-Off: K-Wings vs Walleye

Expect a close game tonight as the Kalamazoo Wings host the Toledo Walleye at Wings Stadium. Tonight is the 13th meeting between the teams this season. Seven of the previous 12 encounters have been decided by a single goal, including five that have come down to either overtime or a shootout.

Kalamazoo started their four-game home stand with a decisive 6-3 victory last night over the Evansville IceMen. With 63 points, the K-Wings are in third place in the Eastern Conference and trail the Greenville Road Warriors by seven points for eighth place in the Eastern Conference.

Being shutout for the first time this season last night in a 3-0 setback to the Cincinnati Cyclones, Toledo will come to Wings Stadium looking to snap a two-game (0-1-1-) winless streak, as well as a four-game (0-2-2-0) road winless streak.

Nearing a Dozen Forward John Armstrong begins the on an 11-game point streak. The point streak is a season-high for the K-Wings and the second current longest (Ontario's Dan DaSilva-14 games) streak in the league.

Record Breaking Performance

With his start last night, Joel Martin has appeared in 53 games this season, which establishes a new K-Wings ECHL single-season record for starts in a single-season (52-Ryan Nie, 2010-2011). The league record for appearances is 65 set in the 1993-94 season by Mark Michaud (Hampton Roads).

Allowing the Shorthanders So far this season, the K-Wings have surrendered nine shorthanded goals. Kalamazoo has also allowed a shorthanded goal in each of their last three games.

Home Sweet Home

Last night, Kalamazoo began a four-game home stand. Including last night's contest, nine out of the K-Wings final 13 games of the regular season will be played at Wings Stadium.
