North Charleston, SC: The Road Warriors could not hold a 2-0 lead through one period of play as the Stingrays comeback to win 3-2 in regulation.
The Road Warriors took a 1-0 lead halfway through the first period when Danny Hobbs took advantage of a misplayed puck. Hobbs scored his fifth of the year on a breakaway beating Stingrays goaltender Ryan Zapolski low glove side. Steven Delisle made it 2-0 with a one-timer from the point. Sean Berkstresser fed the pass out to Delisle who scored his fourth of the year. The shot fooled Zapolski because it was deflected by a Stingrays player. The Road Warriors toppled the Stingrays in shots 13-4 in the first frame.
Luka Vidmar found a loose puck in the slot to make the game 2-1with 8:31 into the second period. Vidmar scored his fifth of the year past a diving Connor Knapp. The Stingrays outshot the Road Warriors 16-6 in the period.
The Stingrays applied a great deal of pressure in the third period and once again Vidmar scored to tie the game at two. With a two man advantage, Vidmar scored his sixth of the year on a wrist shot past Knapp's glove. The goal was scored directly after a face-off with Kevin Quick and Robby Dee collecting the helpers. More pressure came and with 43 seconds left, Scotter Vaughan fired a wrist shot past Knapp's blocker to secure the victory. Zapolski was the winning goalie with 25 saves. Knapp took the loss saving 31 of 34 shots.
Greenville returns to the North Charleston Coliseum tomorrow for a 5:05 p.m. face-off. The game can be viewed via America One or by clicking the listen live link on the Road Warriors' homepage.
