Grizzlies Add Veteran D-Man Chris Allen

West Valley City, Utah - Utah Grizzlies Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Kevin Colley announced today that the team has signed former Florida Panthers draft pick and defenseman Chris Allen to a contract. He will be in the lineup wearing number 53 when the Grizzlies complete their series with Ontario tonight at 7 p.m. at the E-Center.

Allen, 6-foot-3, 223 pounds; joins Utah after playing this year in the United Kingdom with Edinburgh and Coventry both of the EIHL totaling two goals and seven assists for nine points in 22 games.

"Chris will add size and a strong veteran presence to our defensive end," said Colley. "He will also be an integral part of our power-play unit as well."

The third-round pick of the Florida Panthers in 1996, returns to the ECHL for the first time since 2003-2004, when he totaled 13 goals and 25 assists for 38 points in 68 games with South Carolina. He played a game with the Florida Panthers in both 1997-98 and 1998-99 before battling injuries.

The Ontario native comes to Utah a veteran of 103 AHL games and 130 ECHL contests. He has had his shot timed at 103 miles-per-hour and was named PETA's 2008 winner of the Vegetarian Next Door Contest.
