
Condors Weekly: Two Wins Keep Big Division Lead Intact

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors came out of the All-Star Break with a three-in-three weekend, going 2-1-0-0 to bolster their lead in the Pacific Division. The Condors record of 25-11-2-1, with 53 points in the standings, puts them 13 points ahead of the second-place Stockton Thunder in the division. Bakersfield is also just three points behind Idaho for the top spot in the National Conference, setting the stage for a two-game showdown with the Steelheads this weekend. The National Conference's top seed will get a bye in the first round of the Kelly Cup Playoffs.

NATIONAL CONFERENCE 11 vs. American Conference 10
The Condors had four players participating for the National Conference, helping to carry them to a narrow win over the American Conference in the Skills Competition Tuesday night. Among the highlights from the evening were Condors D Sasha Pokulok breaking the 101 m.p.h. barrier twice in the hardest shot competition, though he finished second by.4 m.p.h. D Eric Regan finished fourth in the fastest skater competition and LW Shawn Weller nailed all four targets on six shots in the accuracy shooting, while G Timo Pielmeier shined in both the breakaway relay (stopping 5 of 7) and the rapid fire (stopping 8 of 10).

American Conference 10 vs. NATIONAL CONFERENCE 9, SO
The American Conference overcame a late deficit and prevailed in a shootout, 10-9 on Wednesday from Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, Calif. The National Conference trailed 3-2 after the first period of play when Condors G Timo Pielmeier came in and shut the Americans down for over 13 minutes, allowing the Nationals to surge ahead. Pielmeier gave up just two goals on 14 shots, while LW Shawn Weller had an assist for the Nationals in the loss.

F Stephane Goulet scored with less than a minute to play in regulation to tie the score, and D Mark Mitera potted the game winner in overtime to cap a come-from-behind 4-3 win for the Condors on Friday night. C Adam Naglich and RW Ryan Menei also lit the lamp for Bakersfield, who won their third in a row at home with the win. G Timo Pielmeier made 25 saves for his 17th victory of the season.

Victoria 2 vs. CONDORS 1

G David Shantz shut down the Condors on Saturday night, holding them scoreless for nearly 58 straight minutes, in a 2-1 victory for the Salmon Kings on Saturday. RW Nick Kemp scored 2:08 into the game to give Bakersfield the 1-0 lead, but Victoria answered a minute later and took the lead midway through the second period.
Sunday, Jan. 24
Condors 5 vs. STOCKTON 2
C Gino Guyer (right) scored twice and G Timo Pielmeier made 33 saves as the Condors rocked the Thunder 5-2. The game featured four fights and a three-goal middle frame by Bakersfield that pushed them in front. C Adam Naglich, LW Shawn Weller and F Stephane Goulet also lit the lamp for the visiting Condors, who ended a nine-game unbeaten home streak for the Thunder.
PLAYER AND TEAM NOTES:
F Stephane Goulet saw his 12-game point streak come to an end on Saturday night. Goulet had 10g-8a-18pts during the streak. He started a new one on Sunday with 1g-1a.
C Adam Naglich (2g-2a) and RW Nick Kemp (1g-3a) both had at least a point in all three games last weekend.
The Condors play six straight games against West Division opponents, including four against the Alaska Aces, who are in town on Wednesday. Next week the Condors head to Anchorage for a three-game series.
Bakersfield has played in only 39 games this season, the least amount of games in the ECHL. They have one game in-hand on Stockton, and two on both Las Vegas and Ontario.
It took the Condors until Mar. 4 last season to reach 25 victories. They reached it on Jan. 25 this season.
The Condors 46 shots on Sunday tied their season high, which also came against Stockton on Dec. 4.
Bakersfield has allowed just three power play goals in the last seven games, killing off 29 of 32 power plays against (90.6%).
When leading or tied after the first period, the Condors are 19-2-2.

The Condors return home to host three games next week. Wednesday, Jan. 27 against Alaska is High School/College ID Night, sponsored by My 45 and 106.1 KRAB Radio. All high school and college students can purchase lower level tickets for just $1 by presenting their student ID (based on availability).
Then on the weekend they host the Idaho Steelheads. On Friday, Jan. 29 the first 3,000 fans get Trading Card Collector's Series #3, sponsored by 29 Eyewitness News and U.S. Army. Then on Saturday, Jan. 30 Spider-Man will be in the house to meet fans and pose for pictures at the Condors photo booth, sponsored by My 45, 106.1 KRAB Radio and 3-Way Automotive Group.
