
Grizzlies Acquire Goaltender Shawn Hunwick from South Carolina

West Valley City, Utah - Utah Grizzlies Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Kevin Colley announced today that the team has acquired goaltender Shawn Hunwick from the South Carolina Stingrays in exchange for future considerations.
Hunwich, a rookie, played collegiately at the University of Michigan where he went 54-24-7 with a 2.06 goals-against-average and a .927 save percentage over four seasons. On March 28, 2012, he was signed to an Amateur Tryout Agreement by the Columbus Blue Jackets and appeared in the final 2:33 of a 7-3 win over the New York Islanders on April 7.
Hunwick left the University of Michigan as the program's all-time leader in goals-against-average and save percentage. He ranks fourth all-time with ten shutouts and ranks seventh all-time with 54 wins. Last year, he finished third nationally with 24 wins, fourth with five shutouts, sixth in save percentage (.932) and seventh in GAA at 2.09. He was named the CCHA's Goaltender of the Month twice and the Goaltender of the Week three times. He was named the CCHA's Tournament MVP in 2010, led Michigan to the NCAA Championship game in 2011 and was one of 10 Hobey Baker Finalists in 2012.
With South Carolina this year, Hunwick was 4-4 with a 2.92 goals-against-average, a .918 save percentage and a shutout. His first pro win came in his first pro start as he stopped 37 of 38 shots against the Western Conference's Ontario Reign on October 20.
The Grizzlies are back home Friday and Saturday when they will host the Alaska Aces at 7 p.m. each night. Friday, the first 500 fans lined up at 10 a.m. will be able to purchase $5 tickets at the Maverik Center box office. In addition, Friday is the team's Teddy Bear Toss, where fans are invited to toss teddy bears onto the ice for children in need after Utah's first goal. Saturday is a free post-game skate, skate rental is $2.
