
IceMen Acquire 3-New Players; 9-Players Injured

EVANSVILLE, IN.--- With their rash of injuries continuing to mount, the Evansville IceMen have announced the acquisitions of three new players who will each make his debut Wednesday night when the IceMen embark on a three-games' Thanksgiving holiday week road expedition, beginning at Wheeling against the Eastern Conference Atlantic Division rivals, the Nailers.
The IceMen have obtained defenseman SEAN WHITNEY from the San Francisco Bulls for future considerations, signed a second defenseman JARED LAVENDER, as a free agent, formerly with the CHL Quad City Mallards and obtained center CARLO FINUCCI from the Reading Royals, also for future considerations.
Whitney, 23, is a first-year pro, having launched his pro career initially this season with the defending ECHL Kelly Cup Champions, the Florida Everblades before landing with the expansionist San Francisco club. The 6-4, 195lb Scituate, MA product concluded an outstanding four-year collegiate career at NCAA Division I Cornell U., of the ECAC Conference, being a teammate of current Evansville left wing Patrick Kennedy. His older brother is a defenseman in the NHL with the Edmonton Oilers.
Lavender, 28, is presently in his fourth pro season, having played his entire career until now in the CHL. The 5-11, 190lb native of Cleveland Heights, Ohio was in his second season with the Quad City Mallards upon his procurement. His first two seasons were also spent in the CHL with the Missouri Mavericks. Lavender played collegiately in the state of Vermont at Castleton State College.
Completing the troika of the new Evansville reinforcements is Finucci. The 25-year old rookie was a teammate of current IceMen injured defenseman Aaron Gens the past four years at Division I U. Alaska-Fairbanks of the CCHA prior to turning pro. His best career year came in 2007-08 in the junior "ËA' BCHL with the Burnaby Express where he led the league in scoring with 102-points in 60-games on 33-goals; 69-assists with 54-PIM. In that same season, Finucci was honored as the BCHL Most Valuable Player.
At this juncture of the season, the IceMen have been absolutely riddled with injuries as no fewer than nine players are currently shelved with the latest casualty being their top scoring ace and oasis, Todd Robinson. There are six defensemen, alone, plagued with maladies including Jesse Perrin, Aaron Gens, Jake Obermeyer, Philippe Plante, Austin Madaisky and Anton Blomqvist. Robinson, Mark Cody and Oliver Gabriel are the hampered IceMen forwards.
The three newest IceMen player personnel, Whitney, Lavender and Finucci are expected to make their Evansville debuts Wednesday night when the IceMen are guested by the Wheeling Nailers at 6:00 pm CST. It's the first of five consecutive games abroad for Head Coach Rich Kromm's contingent with three of those on the docket this week.
The IceMen will be in Trenton to tackle the Titans on Friday night before making their collective way to Reading Saturday night for an encore duel with the molten-lava hot Royals who have won a league-high season's best 9-games in a row.
Broadcast time for all three IceMen away appearances this week is set for 5:30 pm CST on flagship radio, the "New Magic 98.5 FM/1400 AM WEOA and the IceMen Radio Network.
