Greenville Swamp Rabbits News Release
Elmira, NY: The Road Warriors road win streak was snapped at 6 games as they were handed another loss in Elmira by a score of 2-1.
The Road Warriors started out the first period with multiple chances but were not able to put any of the 14 shots past netminder Marc Cheverie. Brandon Wong took a high sticking penalty halfway through the period which led to a Jackals goal just 20 seconds later. Artem Demkov scored his seventh goal of the year with assists going to Kyle Bushee and Dustin Gazley.
The Jackals took a two goal lead with Demkov scoring his second of the game 9:36 into the second period. Andrew Rowe hit Gazley with a pass entering the zone who fed Demkov on the backdoor for the eventual game winner. Greenville would come within one as Jordie Johnston won a faceoff forward to Brendan Connolly who skated behind the net and connected with Danny Hobbs for a goal. Hobbs scored the first goal of his professional career. Despite the goal, Cheverie continued to come up big in net stopping 19 of shots in the period.
The third period was the most eventful with a big scrum just 3:38 into the period. Bretton Cameron and Ben Blood were taken to the box for fighting majors and Darren Kramer was ejected for leaving the bench during the fight. The Road Warriors were not able to take advantage on the powerplay. Soon after the man advantage the Road Warriors would take four straight penalties which left them shorthanded to finish the game. The Jackals did not convert on the powerplay but did not allow a change of possession for a Greenville offensive opportunity. Cheverie was victorious in net for the Jackals stopping 39 of 40 shots. Nathan Lieuwen was the losing goalie saving 26 of 28 shots.
The Road Warriors continue their road trip on Friday night in Reading for a 7:05 puck drop. The trip will conclude on Saturday night in Trenton for a 7:05 face-off.
