Greenville Swamp Rabbits News Release

GREENVILLE, SC -Tonight the Greenville Road Warriors tangle with a South Division foe in a game filled with excitement and anticipation. The Road Warriors are hosting their inaugural Teddy Bear Toss with Greenville native Edwin McCain performing the "Star Spangled Banner."

RECAPPING THE ACTION:

12/15/10 - GRW 1 - FLA 5

After jumping out to a 1-0 lead within the first two minutes of play the Road Warriors could not hold off a solid Florida attack and sustain their most lopsided home defeat of the season. Brandon Wong opened the scoring at 1:48 to extend his goal scoring streak to three games. That, however, was all the offense the Road Warriors would muster. Florida peppered Dov Grumet-Morris with 11 shots in the opening frame and three, two by Mitch Fadden, found their way into the net. In the second, Francis Lemieux and Mathieu Roy scored 20 seconds apart to round out the night's scoring. Greenville out-shot Florida 10-3 in the third frame but could not slip a shot past Bobby Goepfert. Grumet-Morris made 21 saves and sustained his third regulation loss of the season.

12/11/10 - GWT 3 - WHL 8

One night after suffering a 7-2 setback to the Wheeling Nailers, Gwinnett could not recover and produce a better result last Saturday. The Gladiators gave up more goals than they had in any previous game this season and had their season-long losing streak extend to five games. Wheeling grabbed a 3-0 lead over the first 12 minutes of the opening period before Gwinnett's Dan Kissel dented the scoreboard. Mikael Bedard and Tim Miller exchanged goals for their respective clubs and Wheeling's two goal lead remained intact after 20 minutes. Wheeling piled on one goal in the second and three more in the third to make Matt Krug's third-period goal for Gwinnett relatively insignificant. Chris Carrozzi took the loss with 22 saves on 29 shots through 42:46 of play. Billy Sauer gave up one goal in 17 minutes of mop-up duty.

WHAT'S ON TAP FOR TONIGHT:

The Road Warriors will be trying to ensure that something that hasn't happened in over a month doesn't take place tonight. November 6 and 7, a pair of games at the Arena at Gwinnett Center, were the last games that the Road Warriors had lost consecutively - including overtime games. The only other time that Greenville suffered losses in consecutive games was back on October 22 and 24, but the loss to Florida on the 22nd was in overtime so the Road Warriors did earn a standings point. Greenville's losses this season have typically been tightly played contests and their average margin of defeat is just 2.25.

Greenville's offense has been on a major roll in its last two meetings against Gwinnett with the power play leading the way. After starting the season 1-3-0 against Gwinnett the Road Warriors have won two in a row by a combined score of 12-2. Their 7-1 win over Gwinnett at the BI-LO Center on Dec. 2 was their best offensive outing of the season at home and featured a 3-for-6 effort on the power play. They followed that with a 5-1 win in Gwinnett on Dec. 5 and notched three power play goals in four attempts.

December has been a busy month on the transaction wire for the Road Warriors. By the time the team returned home from Estero, Florida last Sunday eight different transactions had taken place between Greenville and the American Hockey League. They included Brendan Connolly's first career call up to the AHL (Adirondack) and Justin Bowers' first call up of the season to Portland. This past week Julien Brouillette (Lake Erie) and Andrew Carroll (Peoria) each received their second call ups of the season after Connolly and Bowers were returned. Carroll had only played three games with the Road Warriors after returning from a month-long stay in the AHL with the Abbotsford Heat.

Road Warriors fans don't forget to bring your teddy bears tonight! It is the Road Warriors' inaugural Teddy Bear Toss which means you get to throw your teddy bears onto the ice after the Road Warriors score their first goal. All of the new and unwrapped stuffed animals will be collected and donated to WSSL-FM's Toys For Tots drive. To add to the excitement of the night, Greenville native and nationally known recording artist Edwin McCain will be performing the "Star Spangled Banner."
