Elmira Jackals News Release
Elmira, N.Y. - The Trenton Devils (10-12-0-1), behind a hat trick from Ryan Ginand, earned a 4-2 win over the Elmira Jackals (13-8-5-0) on Friday night at First Arena. Elmira is at home against Toledo on Saturday at 7:35 p.m.
Yannick Tifu gave the Jackals a highlight-reel short-handed goal at 16:58 of the first period. After taking a pass from Patrick Coulombe, Tifu skated around two Devils to get from the left boards to the right circle and backhanded the puck top shelf to give Elmira a 1-0 advantage. The short-handed tally was Elmira's fifth of the season and fourth against Trenton.
Late in the second period, Ryan Ginand was able to bank the puck off of Elmira netminder Daren Machesney from the left corner and into the net to tie the game, 1-1, at 17:27.
In the third period, Ryan Hayes tipped in a puck from the right side of the crease to put Trenton in front for good at the 20 second mark, 2-1.
Ginand registered the second of his three goals on a backhander from the right circle to propel the Devils to a 3-1 lead at 5:11 of the third.
Trenton's fourth goal and Ginand's third of the game came on a rebound on the doorstep off of a Devils' blue-line shot, with Ginand pushing the puck into the net to put the T-Devils up 4-1 at 7:49 of the third.
Eric Lampe took a feed in the left circle from Brock McBride and wristed a puck high, stick side past Devils goaltender Dave Caruso to bring Elmira to within two goals, 4-2, at 9:51. McBride extended his point streak to seven games with the assist (2g-8a).
Caruso stopped 35 of 37 shots and improved to 2-4-0-2, however, keeping the Jackals off the scoreboard for the final half of the third period and giving Trenton the victory. Machesney fell to 1-2 with the Jackals in a 38-save effort.
