Gorillas Win Second in A Row

Rio Rancho, New Mexico - The Amarillo Gorillas won their second game in a row, beating the New Mexico Scorpions on Saturday night by a final score of 3-1. Amarillo has now won three games in a row at the Santa Ana Star Center.

Chris Lipsett scored two goals for the Gorillas, and Chris Martini had the game-winner at 4:19 of period number three, his second goal of the season. Dan McWhinney was in net for the second straight night, turning aside 28 of the 29 shots he faced. The loss was New Mexico's fourth in a row.

Amarillo moved to 9-15-4 overall on the season, and with 22 points, they sit just six points behind New Mexico for third place in the Southwest Division. Corpus Christi, which is currently in the fifth and final playoff spot in the Southern Conference, also got a win tonight to keep pace and remain three points ahead of Amarillo with 25.

Amarillo heads home to take on the Odessa Jackalopes on Monday, December 31st, and will try to extract some revenge for their 5-1 loss to Odessa on Thursday night.
