
Howarth Selected To 2008 All-Star Team

Corpus Christi Rayz rookie forward, Brent Howarth has been selected to the 2008 CHL Southern Conference All-Star Team, the Central Hockey League announced Saturday afternoon as part of the final All-Star selections. The All-Star appearance comes in Howarth's first professional campaign. The announcement came as part of the Southern Conference All-Star reserves release. Howarth currently leads the Rayz in points with 27 (9g, 18a) and is third in CHL rookie scoring. He will represent the Rayz at the 2008 CHL All-Star Game in Broomfield, Colorado on Wednesday, January 16th.
Howarth, 21, is in his first professional season and has taken the CHL by storm. The St. Andrews, Manitoba native leads the Rayz with 27 points, and is currently pacing all CHL rookies in assists with 18. Howarth has seven assists in his last four games, and this season has points in 16 of 27 games, including eight multi-point games. Howarth won the CHL Oakley Player of the Week award for November 26th - December 2nd.
Howarth came to the Rayz this season after lighting up the Manitoba Junior Hockey League last season as a member of the Selkirk Steelers. The 6'1", 195 lbs. forward put up a remarkable 49 goals and 82 assists for 131 points in just 59 games. Howarth helped lead the Steelers to the AVANET Cup Championship. Prior to his only season in the MJHL, Howarth spent three seasons playing major junior hockey in the WHL as a member of the Kelowna Rockets, capturing the Memorial Cup in 2004.
Howarth, along with the other Southern Conference reserves, was selected by Arizona Sundogs Head Coach, Marco Pietroniro, who will serve as the Southern Conference Head Coach in the All-Star Game. For a complete listing of the CHL All-Stars, visit www.centralhockeyleague.com.
