SteelHounds edge RiverKings, 3-2

December 29, 2007 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Mississippi RiverKings News Release

Kirill Starkov scored twice to lead the Youngstown SteelHounds over the Mississippi RiverKings tonight 3-2 at the Chevrolet Centre.

Even though the RiverKings (18-8-1) have a game in hand, the SteelHounds (19-8-1) now lead the Northeast Division by two points.

Aaron Davis began the scoring with a power play goal late in the first period. Davis's 14th goal at 15:43 gave the RiverKings a 1-0 lead, but the SteelHounds came right back with a power play goal of their own. Starkov's second goal of the season brought the home team back on level terms with 1:55 to go in the period.

The SteelHounds took the lead at 8:16 of the second period when Petr Pohl picked Jason Lawmaster's pocket behind the RiverKings net. Pohl found the twine for the 13th time this year to make it a 2-1 game. However, Ryan Campbell scored his 10th goal of the season on the power play at 9:01 to even the score.

Nevertheless, Starkov scored his third goal in two games with 6:44 remaining in the second to put the SteelHounds ahead for good.

Brad Roberts made 23 saves for the SteelHounds. Sebastien Centomo made 20 saves for the RiverKings.

The RiverKings will begin a "three games in three nights" road trip next Thursday in Laredo against the Bucks at 7 p.m. The pre-game show will start at 6:50 p.m. on Sports 56 WHBQ.
