Hounds complete sweep of Kings to retake first place

YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO - The Youngstown SteelHounds defeated the Mississippi RiverKings 3-2 on Saturday night. The Hounds are now 19-8-1 (39 points) and have retaken first place in the Northeast Division.

The RiverKings struck first as Aaron Davis scored a power play goal at 15:43 of the first period to make it 1-0. Kirill Starkov scored his own power play goal at 18:05 to tie the game at one after 20 minutes of play. The Hounds were 1-7 on the power play while the Kings were 2-11.

In the second period it was Petr Pohl who made a steal behind the net and put the puck past Sebastien Centomo at 8:16 to give the Hounds the 2-1 lead. Mississippi responded 45 seconds later thanks to a power play goal from Ryan Campbell to tie the game at two. Kirill Starkov ended the scoring at 13:16 of the second period with his second goal of the night and third of the season to put the Hounds up 3-2. Starkov had no goals coming into this weekend and now has three in two games. He has notched the game winner in both games.

Brad Roberts did the rest as he held the RiverKings scoreless in the third period to preserve the victory for the SteelHounds. Roberts made 23 saves on 25 shots to improve to 5-4-0 on the year.

The Hounds hold a two point lead on the RiverKings and the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs for first place in the Northeast Division.
