December 29, 2007 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
New Mexico Scorpions News Release
[RIO RANCHO, N.M.]-The improbable happened as the Gorillas beat the Scorpions 3-1, earning the weekend sweep. It was the third straight time Amarillo has beaten the Scorpions inside the Santa Ana Star Center.
It took awhile for either team to get on the scoreboard. Chris Lipsett lit the lamp at the 6:28 mark of the second period, giving his team the 1-0 lead. The Scorpions came back when Aaron MacInnis' power play fond the back of the net at the 15:53 mark of the middle frame.
With the scored tied at one after two periods of play, the third period promised to be exciting. Unfortunately for the hometown fans, Amarillo provided the only offense in the final frame.
Chris Martini gave the Gorillas the lead for good when his shot beat Mike Minard's glove 4:19 into the third period. Lipsett sealed the victory with a late power play goal at 18:18.
The Scorpions head to the road for a New Year's Eve affair in Arizona . The puck drops at 7:35 and the game can be heard on 610 The Sports Animal or seen for free on the CHL Network.
