Bucks Take Bite Out Of Dogs, Win 2-1

PRESCOTT VALLEY, AZ- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League beat the Arizona Sundogs 2-1 Friday night in front of 4,582 fans at Tim's Toyota Center. With the win the Bucks increase their lead in the Southern Conference over the Sundogs to five points. Laredo (21-7-2) now has 44 points to the Sundogs 39.

James Hiebert picked up a goal an an assist, with All-Star Dustin Traylen setting aside 30 of 31 Arizona shots to get the win in net.

Laredo has won three straight games, and five of their last six.

The Bucks jumped out in front 1-0 at the 9:37 mark, when Andrew Desjardins scored off of a shot from his stomach from the right circle. It was Desjardins' 10th goal of the season. Jeff Bes and Hiebert picked up assists on the tally.

The Bucks were outshot in the first period 10-9, as Traylen set aside all 10 Sundogs shots, while Bill Zaniboni stopped eight of nine Laredo attempts.

With five seconds left in the period and Laredo's power-play ending, Arizona's Oliver Latendresse broke free past the Bucks defense for a break-away attempt, but Traylen stopped it with his shoulder, sending the puck into the corner and keeping the 1-0 edge for the Bucks.

With both teams skating four-on-four Laredo took a 2-0 lead 6:03 into the second period as James Hiebert sent in his own rebound from the slot past Zaniboni. For Hiebert it was his 14th goal of the season, with Alex Penner and Serge Dube picking up assists.

The Bucks outshot the Sundogs in the second period 17-7.

Laredo came up empty on three power-play chances in the second period.

Arizona (10-2 at home) cut the Laredo lead to 2-1 with just over 12 minutes left in the game, as Karl Sellan scored off of a rebound in the right crease past Traylen.

The Sundogs (19-7-1) pulled Zaniboni for the final 1:35 of the game to have an extra-attacker, with the Bucks hanging on for the win. Traylen made several key stops in the game, including four in the final minute of the game.

The Bucks and Sundogs will battle again Saturday night at 8:05 CST. If the Bucks win Saturday they can increase their lead over the Sundogs in the Southern Conference to seven points.
