February 8, 2008 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Amarillo Gorillas News Release

Wichita, KS 2/8/08 - The Amarillo Gorillas set a season high with five wins in a row, after an 8-3 victory over the Wichita Thunder at the Kansas Coliseum on Friday night. The Gorillas completed the season sweep of the Thunder, and outscored them 18-9 in their three match-ups this season. The Gorillas offensive assault continued, as they have now scored seven or more goals in three of their last five games. Over the course of their current five game win streak, the Gorillas have scored a total of 34 goals, an average of 6.8 goals per game. Goaltender Dan McWhinney has been in net for all five victories, and turned aside 36 of the 39 shots he faced Friday night. McWhinney set a personal career best with the five straight wins, and both he and the team will look to continue that streak next week when the Gorillas visit New Mexico on Tuesday night and Arizona on Wednesday night.

Amarillo would finish the contest 2-6 on the power-play, while Wichita would go 1-4. Amarillo got key contributions from a wealth of players, as Shaun Arvai registered 4 assists, Bill Vandermeer had two goals and an assist, Keith Rowe tallied two goals, Nate Fornataro had a goal and an assist, and David Nimmo picked up a goal and an assist as well. The Gorillas would carry a 4-2 lead into the second frame and extend it to 6-2 heading into the third. The lead would swell to 8-2 before Wichita's Mike Lukajic would get his second of the game to make it 8-3, the final score of the contest.

Amarillo will be back at home next weekend with games on Saturday the 16th against New Mexico and Sunday the 17th against the Austin Ice Bats.
