February 8, 2008 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Rocky Mountain Rage News Release
Broomfield, Colo. - The Rocky Mountain Rage hockey team returned home tonight after their longest road series of the season to host the Southwest Division leading Arizona Sundogs in their third meeting this season. The teams were 1-1 against each other coming into tonight's game with both previous clashes ending in overtime. Tonight, the Sundogs came out on top, winning 4-3 at the Broomfield Event Center.
The Rage, wearing Breast Cancer Awareness Specialty Jerseys, fell to 29-10-4 (62 points) overall and remain in first place in the Northwest Division. The Sundogs advanced to 26-14-4 (56 points) and also remain in first place in the Southwest Division.
On just the second shot on net of the game, Rocky Mountain scored first at 5:17 with a power-play goal by Daymen Rycroft shoveled in net on a rebound. It marked Rycroft's league-leading 37th goal this season and the 100th goal of his four-year professional career.
The Rage kept their offensive dominance throughout the first period out-shooting the Sundogs 12-6. With five minutes remaining, Rage defenseman Tyler Butler fired a slap shot from the blueline. It bounced off of a Sundogs defender directly to winger Trevor Weisgerber who shot it in net at 15:35 to give the Rage a two goal lead before the first intermission. Newly acquired left winger Ladislav Kouba earned an assist on the play for his first point in his first game with the Rage. Kouba is a former 7th-round draft choice of the Phoenix Coyotes in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.
Momentum shifted mid-way through the second period when the Sundogs answered back with two goals of their own from Barry Horman at 7:28 for his first professional goal and Karl Sellan at 8:00.
The Sundogs took their first lead of the game early in the third period. The Rage attempted to clear the zone, but Arizona defenders kept the puck on the doorstep of Rage goaltender Scott Reid. On a second rebound at 2:33, forward Mark Kolanos wristed the puck between the pads of Reid.
Sundogs defenseman Dan Laperrierre added what would eventually be the game-winning goal at 16:27.
Rage right winger Chip Dunleavy answered back late in the third pulling the Rage within one goal at 18:02. Rycroft and Reid collected assists on the goal. The Sundogs kept the Rage from tying the game in the final two minutes to finish with the win.
