Arizona Sundogs News Release

BROOMFIELD, Colo. - The Arizona Sundogs of the Central Hockey League, with three days remaining before the trade deadline, today sent defenseman Jonathan Bernier to the Wichita Thunder in exchange for goaltender Marco Emond and the rights to defenseman Dominic D'Amour.

Emond, 30, has won two Ray Miron President's Cup Championships in the Central Hockey League. His first came with the Laredo Bucks in 2003-04 when he finished 22-4-3 in the regular season with a 2.10 goals against average (GAA) and a .924 save percentage (SV%). The Valleyfield, Quebec, native's second came last season while with the defending champion Colorado Eagles, where he compiled a 28-8-0 record, 2.54 GAA and .919 SV%. The 5-foot-10, 195-pound goaltender was 13-3-0 through 16 games with Colorado this season before being traded to the Wichita Thunder on Jan. 29.

"Marco Emond is a proven goaltender in this league, having won two championships with Laredo and Colorado," said Sundogs Head Coach and General Manager Marco Pietroniro. "Our recent roster additions ensure that we're prepared for a long playoff run."

D'Amour, a former third round pick (88th overall) of the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, began the season with the Thunder before leaving the team to play in Italy on Jan. 5. The LaSalle, Quebec, native appeared in 26 games for the Thunder this season, tallying five goals, ten assists and 65 penalty minutes. The 6-foot-3, 221-pound d-man spent the previous two seasons in the American Hockey League with the Toronto Marlies. In 72 games with Toronto, D'Amour collected three goals, 13 assists and 84 penalty minutes.

Bernier has been with Arizona since its inception, appearing in 99 games with the Sundogs. In two seasons, the 6-foot-2, 205-pound defenseman collected two goals, five assists and a franchise-high 343 penalty minutes.

"Jonathan has done very well for us over two seasons," added Pietroniro. "He is excited to see more ice time and for the opportunity to play with his brother (Cedric) again. We wish him the best of luck as his on-ice career continues."

The Arizona Sundogs are in Colorado to take on the Rocky Mountain Rage at the Broomfield Event Center tonight at 7:05pm (Arizona time). The game can be heard live on 96.7 FM The Wolf, the Official Broadcast Home of the Arizona Sundogs.
