Mississippi RiverKings News Release
Ryan Held and Peter Kennedy returned from injury and hooked up for the winning goal as the Mississippi RiverKings defeated the Youngstown SteelHounds 5-1 tonight at Chevrolet Centre.
Held deflected Kennedy's wrist shot from the right point 5:58 into the second period for his 18th goal of the season to move the RiverKings into a temporary tie with the SteelHounds for third place in the Northern Conference. While the top five teams in each conference will make the playoffs, the teams in fourth and fifth places will have to play a best-of-three opening round series to qualify for the conference semifinals.
Sheldon Wenzel tied the game for the RiverKings early in the second. He scored his first goal of the season at 2:02 by beating Andy Franck to the stick side.
The RiverKings scored three times in the third period. Chad Woollard's 22nd and 23rd goals of the season sandwiched Rick Kozak's 18th.
Milan Maslonka beat Ian Keserich over the right shoulder from the left circle 5:25 into the game on a power play for his third goal of the season to give the SteelHounds a 1-0 lead.
Keserich made 37 saves and improved to 5-0-1 with the RiverKings. Franck stopped 25 shots.
The two teams go back at it tomorrow at 6:05 p.m. The pre-game show begins at 5:55 p.m. on Y 96.1 FM.
PINK AT THE RINK
Next Friday, the RiverKings will host the Tulsa Oilers for Pink at the Rink. The RiverKings will wear pink jerseys and play on pink ice. The first thousand fans will receive a Pink at the Rink RiverKings T-shirt from the DeSoto Athletic Club. The pink jerseys will go to auction immediately following the game to benefit Susan G. Komen. Two dollars from each ticket will also go to Susan G. Komen. Meanwhile, Thompson Dunavant PLC of Memphis will sponsor Pink of the Rink. As part of their sponsorship, they will make a donation of $250 dollars to Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Murphy & Sons will also help sponsor Pink of the Rink by making a 100-dollar donation.
