February 8, 2008 - Central Hockey League (CHL) News Release

The Arizona Sundogs (25-14-4) hope they have gotten back on track after Wednesday's 5-4 overtime victory against the Corpus Christi Rayz (16-22-6). The win moved Arizona back into first place in the Southwest Division by a point over the Odessa Jackalopes (23-13-7) and by three points over the surging New Mexico Scorpions (23-15-5). The Sundogs face the Northwest Division leading Rocky Mountain Rage (29-9-4) on Friday night and the Colorado Eagles (24-12-5) on Saturday night.

Arizona was 1-4-0 in their previous five games before Wednesday's triumph and after the weekend in the Rocky Mountains they return home for six straight games (Sundogs are 14-5-1 on home ice). All-Star MVP Alex Leavitt has caught fire scoring a goal with four assists in his last three games.

The Sundogs opponents both are returning home after extended road trips. The Rage (16-2-2 at home this season) went 2-4-1 on their seven-game road trip but were only outscored 26-24 in the seven games. The Eagles went 2-3-0 on their recently completed five-game road trip.

The Bugs have a six-point lead over Laredo and Rocky Mountain in the race for the Governors' Cup (regular season champs). After Friday's road game, the Mudbugs return home to face the Texas Brahmas (22-18-1) hoping to come within one home win of the CHL record of 21 straight home wins set in the 2003-04 season by Laredo. Currently, the Mudbugs have won 19 straight games at the CenturyTel Center.
