Amarillo Gorillas News Release
Odessa, TX - The Amarillo Gorillas came up with a late rally once again, this time in Odessa against the division-rival Jackalopes, and again came up just short falling to the Odessa Jackalopes 3-2 at the Ector County Coliseum.
The first period started off with a quick mistake by Amarillo, as goaltender Dan Bauer mishandled a puck behind his own net, and Jocelyn Dubord pounced on the gaffe putting the puck into an empty net, giving Odessa a 1-0 lead just :48 into the game. Sebastian Thinel came up with another at the 13:35 mark on the power-play, getting help from Nathan Ward and Dominic Leveille, as Odessa carried a 2-0 lead into the second period.
In period two, Amarillo would come back strong, getting a goal from defenseman J.R. Holmes, his first of the season, to cut the lead in half at the 6:55 mark. Towards the end of the period, Amarillo thought they had tied it up when they scored a goal that was signaled a goal by the head referee, who then talked it over with his linesmen and ultimately waved it off. Despite the Gorillas protests, they would leave the ice down 2-0 after two periods of play.
Period number three would see the Jacks take a two goal lead once again, as Mario Joly's power-play goal at 4:46 made it a 3-1 hockey game. The Gorillas response came in the form of a goal from David Nimmo 13:23 into the period, making it a one goal game, and giving Amarillo a fighting chance. However, it would be more of the same for Amarillo, as they have had rallies come up short all season long, and Friday night was no different. With Bauer on the bench for a sixth attacker, Amarillo came in waves at Odessa goalie Mike Gorman, but could not get the equalizing goal and Odessa survived the onslaught for their tenth win of the season.
Amarillo fell to 2-11-3, and heads home for two games against the Colorado eagles on Saturday and Sunday nights. Game times is 7:05 on Saturday and 6:05 on Sunday.
