Division Leaders Face-Off In Broomfield

November 30, 2007 - Central Hockey League (CHL) News Release

The Rocky Mountain Rage (12-1-1) will look to extend their winning streak to eight straight games tonight at the Broomfield Event Center when they host the Arizona Sundogs (11-4-1). The game features the Northwest Division leading Rage who have dropped just one game in regulation this season and are 7-0-1 at home this season. The opposition, the Sundogs, have won three straight games and are currently two points ahead of Odessa for first place in the Southwest Division.

The teams met previously on October 27th when the Rage won in overtime 5-4. Tyler Butler scored the game-winning goal and had an assist for the Rage, while Scott Wray had a goal and two assists. Alex Leavitt and Tyler Redenbach each notched three points in the loss for the Sundogs.

Two of the hotter goaltenders in the league could be matched-up against each other as Rocky Mountain's Scott Reid is 8-0-0 on the season with a 2.53 goals against average and Arizona's Andrew Gallant is 7-2-0 with a 2.59 goals against average. Scoring the first goal of the game should be key as Arizona is 7-0-0 this season when finding the back of the net first and the Rage is 8-0-1 when scoring first.

The game can be seen LIVE on CHL Network beginning at 7:05 PM (MST).

BRAHMAS LOOK TO COOL OFF MISSISSIPPI

The Texas Brahmas will play game five of a nine-game home stand on Friday when they host the Mississippi RiverKings at the NYTEX Sports Centre. The RiverKings have won five of six and are currently two points behind Youngstown for first place in the Northeast Division. Texas is 2-2 on their current home stand and sits tied for third place in the Northeast Division. The Brahmas are 4-3-0 at home this season. The game features two of the CHL's hottest goal scorers with Mississippi's Chad Woollard (seven goals in his last six games) and Texas' Scott Sheppard (four goals in his last five games). Woollard plays against the Brahmas for the first time as a visitor. The forward is the Brahmas all-time leader with 290 games played and 264 points.

HOUNDS AND MUDBUGS, PART 3

The Youngstown SteelHounds and the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs meet for the third time in the last week on Friday night at the CenturyTel Center. Last weekend in Youngstown, the Hounds won 4-3 on Friday night with Joel Irving scoring the game-tying goal in the third period and the game winner in overtime. Bossier-Shreveport came back to win the re-match on Saturday with a big second period that saw them score three goals in three minutes. Youngstown has won two of the three games this season. Youngstown gets a boost with the return of Petr Pohl (8-12=20) who was re-assigned to the Hounds from Syracuse (AHL) but they lost goaltender Andy Franck (11-2-1) who was called-up by Providence (AHL). The Mudbugs are coming off another solid defensive performance last night in a 2-1 victory versus Wichita. The Mudbugs are 5-0 in their last five home games allowing just two goals over that stretch.

TULSA RENEWS RIVALRY WITH OKLAHOMA CITY

The Tulsa Oilers (5-9-0) look as if they are turning their slow start around behind the strong play of rookie goaltender Clint Chalmers. The first-year netminder is 3-1 on the season and is coming off a shutout of Odessa on Tuesday night. David Beauregard had a hat trick on Tuesday and the reigning CHL MVP Jeff Christian had a pair of helpers. The Blazers are coming off a 4-3 overtime victory against Mississippi last night. The win was satisfying for the Blazers but allowing the RiverKings to score with less than 20 seconds remaining in the game extending it to overtime was not. Sean Connors made 31 saves earning just his second win of the season. Chris Barth, claimed off waivers this week by Oklahoma City, will see his former Tulsa teammates for the first time as an opponent.

COLORADO PLAYS SCORPIONS IN SANDWICH GAME OF AMARILLO SERIES

The Colorado Eagles (8-5-2) have won five of their last six games and defeated Amarillo (2-10-3) twice last weekend and tonight face New Mexico (7-8-2) before playing two more games versus the Gorillas on Saturday and Sunday. The Eagles currently sit seven points in back on Rocky Mountain for first place in the Northwest Division. Tonight's game marks the first meeting of the season between the Scorpions and the Eagles. The all-time series has been dominated by Colorado who is 22-2-4 in the previous 28 games versus New Mexico. The Eagles are 13-5-2 all-time versus Amarillo.
