November 30, 2007 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
New Mexico Scorpions News Release

[RIO RANCHO, N.M.]-Behind a season high four power play goals, the Scorpions beat the defending CHL champion Colorado Eagles 4-3. The victory stopped a 10 game losing streak against Colorado, dating back to March 4, 2005.

New Mexico grabbed the lead early with great power play work. Mitch Stephens picked up his sixth goal of the season on a rebound at the 5:15 mark of the first period.

The Eagles came back and tied the game when Seth Leonard's shot deflected into the net. It was Leonard's eighth goal of the season and 18th point in the last 11 games.

The Scorps reclaimed the lead with another power play goal. Craig Macdonald showed his baseball skills, knocking the puck out of mid air and into the net, giving his team a 2-1 lead.

Colorado took their turn on the power play in the second period. The Eagles started the middle frame with the man advantage and Aaron Schneekloth bit his old team with his eighth goal of the season.

Just like the last two times Colorado tied the game, the Scorpions came back to take the lead. For the third time Friday night, the Scorps scored with the man advantage when Ray Ortiz tucked a rebound goal at the 6:43 mark.

New Mexico grabbed their first two-goal lead of the game when Craig Macdonald scored another power play goal, his second of the contest. Colorado came right back when Fraser Flipic lifted the puck over goaltender Andrew Martin, reducing the Scorps lead to a single goal.

Martin would not be beat again as he stood tall throughout the game in net with his 32 save performance. The win ended the Scorpions four game winless streak and brought them back to the .500 mark.

The Scorpions remain home Saturday night to play the Rocky Mountain Rage. Fans are encouraged to bring new, unwrapped toys to donate on "Toys For Tots Night." Anyone donating a toy will receive a coupon good for $5 a ticket to any December home game.
