Laredo Bucks News Release

HIDALGO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League beat the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees 2-1 in front of 5,220 fans at the Dodge Arena Friday night.

Veteran Paul Elliott scored the game-winner for the Bucks with just 2:29 left in the game, lifting Laredo to their fourth straight win. The Bucks improve their overall record to 15-3-1 for 31 points, best in the CHL. Elliott's game-winner was assisted by Jeff Bes and Igor Agarunov.

The first period was scoreless as both teams failed to light the lamp. The Bucks and the Killer Bees each took six shots, with both goaltenders stopping every shot that came their way. Bucks goaltender Dustin Traylen stopped all six Bees shots, while Rio goalie Jeff Van Nynatten set aside all six Laredo shots. Each team came up empty on the power-play in the first 20 minutes, as the Bucks went 0-4, and the Bees went 0-3.

The Bucks took a 1-0 lead nearly seven minutes into the second period at the 6:29 mark as Andrew Desjardins scored his sixth goal of the season from the right crease of a pass from Brent MacSween. Vy Nynatten made the initial save, then the puck rolled across the line giving Laredo the lead.

The Bees (7-8-2) tied the game at one apiece with 2:12 left in the second period, as Josh Bonar scored from right in front of the Bucks net on the power-play. Laredo could not clear the puck out, and Bonoar put it past Traylen's shoulder. The Bees outshot the Bucks in the second period 12-8.

With the Bucks up 2-1 late in the third the Bees went on a power-play for the final 1:04, and pulled Vy Nynatten giving them a two-man advantage to try and tie the game. The Bucks hung on for the win.

Traylen (10-3-1) stopped 25 of the 26 Bees shots he faced in picking up the win. He has won all four games during the winning streak.
