Rocky Mountain Rage News Release

Broomfield, Colo. - Northwest Division leader Rocky Mountain Rage fell to the Southwest Division leading Arizona Sundogs 4-3 in overtime tonight at the Broomfield Event Center. Arizona's Tyler Redenbach earned the game winning goal with 24 seconds remaining in overtime for his second score of the night to lead the Sundogs. The Rage remains unbeaten in regulation for an eighth straight game.

The Rage earned one point in the overtime loss bringing the team's record to 12-1-2 (26 points). It marked Rage goaltender Scott Reid's first loss of the season. The Sundogs improved to 12-4-1 (25 points). Both teams remain in the top spot in their respective divisions.

Rage goaltender Reid helped keep the Rage in the game early producing 14 saves in the first period. Arizona came out early with solid scoring chances. Arguably the best scoring chance of the period for the Sundogs came from Michael Bartlett who skated down the left wing on a semi-breakaway with 9:47 remaining in the period. The Sundogs eventually capitalized on one of their scoring chances at 13:54 on the powerplay. Reid attempted to track the puck behind the net after giving up a short rebound. The puck popped out front of the net where Arizona center Tyler Redenbach shot it in net on the glove side of Reid. Redenbach is the league's third leading scorer behind Rocky Mountain's Scott Wray.

The Rage came back and took the lead by the middle of the second period. Rocky Mountain's leading scorer Wray slipped the puck in net past the right pad of Sundogs goaltender Andrew Gallant at the 2:05 mark. Chip Dunleavy gave the Rage their first lead of the game seven minutes later for his second goal of the year.

Arizona answered back to tie the game at 12:25 with a goal by Dusty Collins, but the Rage took back the lead. Left winger Trevor Weisgerber went head-to-head with Arizona goaltender Gallant and wristed the shot between his pads for the score. Arizona kept it close and tied the game one last time before the end of the period.

The Rage outshot the Sundogs 17-8 in the third period, but both teams remained scoreless. The Rage got three consecutive short-handed scoring chances with just over three minutes left in the third period. Daymen Rycroft took the puck down ice and passed it to Nathan Rosychuk who raced to meet up with him. Rosychuk made a shot on goal followed by two rebound shots by Rycroft. Arizona goaltender Gallant stopped all three.

The Rage went to overtime in three of their first five games this season and had not been to overtime since, until tonight. The Rage were offensively dominant in the overtime period, but could not defeat Gallant.

Redenbach, who opened the scoring tonight, closed out the scoring as well. He earned a short-handed goal with 24 seconds remaining in overtime to win it for the Sundogs.

The Rage returns to the road tomorrow when they play the New Mexico Scorpions (game time, 7:15 p.m. MT).
