Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release

It was a promising start, but a dreadful middle and end.

The Winnipeg Goldeyes (21-17) dropped the second game of their three-game series in Sioux City against the Explorers (19-20) 11-4 Tuesday night before just 941 fans at Lewis and Clark Park in Sioux City.

Winnipeg loaded the bases in the top of the first inning and scratched across two runs to take an early lead. Brian Myrow hit an RBI single, while Kody Kaiser scored on a Jon Weber ground out.

The lead would be short lived, though, Sioux City struck for three runs to take a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the first inning. The Goldeyes would counter with a run in the top of the second - an RBI single by Price Kendall - but then the wheels fell off.

Sioux City scored four times in the fourth and twice more in the fifth to take a commanding 9-3 lead. The Explorers added singles in the sixth and eighth innings, while the Goldeyes finished the scoring with a run in the ninth.

Kendall and Kaiser finished the game with a pair of hits.

Goldeyes starter Mike Williams takes his second loss of the season in his first start. He allowed six runs over three innings, while striking out just one.

Sioux City starter Nick Schumacher went seven innings for the win.

The rubber match in the series goes Wednesday night in Sioux City. Game time is 7 p.m. and all the action can be heard live on Sports Radio 1290, beginning with the pre-game show at 6:30 p.m.
