American Association Game Recaps

Lincoln 7, St. Paul 4 (Game 1 - 7 innings)

Having just re-taken the lead for the first time since the top of the fourth, Lincoln got back-to-back sixth-inning home runs from Joe Ramos and Blake Gailen to vault to a 7-4 win. Ramos scored three runs and batted in three to highlight a 2-for-2 night while Gailen went 3-for-4 with a run and three RBI. The Saints were led by Ole Sheldon's two-RBI, 2-for-3 performance. Lincoln reliever Nick Schreiber pitched 1.1 innings and allowed a run on one hit, earning the win. Starting SaltDogs pitcher John James allowed three runs in five innings but didnt' factor in the decision.

St. Paul 8, Lincoln 4 (Game 2 - In progress - Bottom 7)

St. Paul seems poised to take Game 2 of its doublheader with the SaltDogs, as the Saints lead 8-4 in the final scheduled half inning. Saints DH Ole Sheldon is 2-for-4 with a run and two RBI and is the only Saint with multiple hits. The Saints took a 1-0 lead in the first on a Sheldon double and have led the entire way.

Fort Worth 3, Wichita 2

An eighth-inning error came back to bite Wichita on Tuesday, when Fort Worth CF Brian Fryer scored on a double from teammate Trent Lockwood to give the Cats their first and only lead of the game. The 3-2 advantage held for the Cats, who picked up their 15th win of the season. Fryer reached on a miscue in the first at-bat of the inning. Wichita went on top 2-1 in the bottom of the fifth on a Derek Kinzler double that scored Marcos Rodriquez. But the Wingnuts didnt' score again, and Fryer's run proved to be the game-winner.

Shreveport-Bossier 3, Grand Prairie 0

Captains pitching dominated Grand Prairie Tuesday night, and the Shreveport-Bossier lineup did just enough to take a 3-0 win. Starting Captains pitcher Aaron Cunningham handed the ball off to the bullpen after six shutout innings in which he allowed seven hits and struck out three. And his relief was even more impressive, striking out five against just two surrendered hits. The game was locked in a scoreless tie until the top of the sixth, when Captains DH Palmer Karr Jr. doubled in Bryan Sabatella all the way from first. And the Captains led the rest of the way. Cunningham's win was his second of the season.

Kansas City 16, Sioux Falls 3

Already leading by nine runs in the ninth inning, T-Bones RF Ray Sadler put nearly all chances of a Sioux Falls comeback to bed with a grand slam off of Aaron Cotter. The round-tripper brought Sadler's RBI total to six with just two hits in the game in six at-bats. Kansas City pitcher Reid Santos tip-toed around 10 Sioux Falls hits and surrendered just two runs in seven innings. Santos stranded four Pheasants base runners in scoring position in his fourth win of the season. Pheasants RF Gus Milner went 3-for-5 with a triple while both batting in and scoring a run. But the night belonged to the Kansas City lineup, which was all but unstoppable.

Gary SouthShore 3, Fargo-Moorhead 2 (10 innings)

Through nine innings of dead-even baseball, Gary SouthShore had managed just four hits. But when the 10th inning arrived, the RailCats appeared to be a different team, racking up three hits in four at-bats, the final an Adam Klein, game-winning RBI single. The one batter not to get a hit in the extra frame was Chris Carrara. He was hit by a pitch. Gary SouthShore never took a 2-0 lead in the third. And though the RedHawks tied the score in the sixth on a solo home run by Jesse Hoorelbeke, Fargo-Moorhead never was able to take a lead. Klein and Hoorelbeke led their teams with three hits apiece.

Sioux City 11, Winnipeg 4

The Goldeyes and Explorers traded barbs early, and the score was dead even at three runs apiece after three innings. That's when the Sioux City lineup - and pitcher Nick Schumacher - took over. With Schumacher putting up scoreless inning after scoreless inning, his teammates at the plate had seemed to figure out Winnipeg pitchers. The Explorers scored seven runs in the middle innings, including a fourth that saw four runs scored and every Sioux City batter take swings. Explorers DH Javier Brito led all batters with four hits in five at-bats with a run scored, while his teammate Wally Backman went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.

Amarillo 12, El Paso 3 (In progress - Bottom 8)

The Sox lead 12-3 over the Diablos in the bottom of the eighth inning. Amarillo scored seven first-inning runs and have never been threatened. RF Tim Alberts 3-for-4 with a run and three RBI.
