St. Paul Saints News Release

LINCOLN, NE (June 21, 2011) - For the first time since May 23 the St. Paul Saints don't possess first place all by themselves as they lost game one of a doubleheader 7-4 to the Lincoln Saltdogs at Haymarket Park on Tuesday evening.

As has happened so many times in the Saints history Haymarket Park turned disastrous late as the Saltdogs scored six runs over the final two innings. With the Saints leading 3-1 in the bottom of the fifth Pat Trettel walked with one out. He moved to second on a passed ball and scored on a double by Joe Ramos to cut the Saints lead to 3-2. Blake Gailen, who entered play hitting .420, lined a single to left scoring Ramos and tying the game at three.

In the seventh Saints starter Alberto Rolon retired the first two men he faced, but then everything fell apart. Brandon Jones doubled off the wall and scored on a double from Trettel to make it 4-3 Saltdogs. Ramos made it 6-3 with a two-run homer to center, his second of the season. Gailen followed that with a solo shot to right, his seventh of the season which put the nail in the coffin for the Saints fourth straight loss. Gailen finished 3-4, a double shy of the cycle with three RBI.

With the Saints trailing 1-0 in the third Jason Cooper reached on an infield single and with one out Ole Sheldon roped a two-run shot to left, his fifth of the season, to give the Saints a 2-1 lead. Ronnie Bourquin then walked, moved to third on a single from Jonathan Van Every and scored on a groundout by newest Saint Alex Garabedian giving the Saints a 3-1 lead, one they would let slip away late.
