Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release

For the Winnipeg Goldeyes, it was a disastrous trip to Fargo this weekend.

Sunday afternoon in front of 3,660 spectators at Newman Outdoor Field, the Goldeyes were blasted 10-2 by the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks, as the home side swept a three-game series from the Goldeyes.

With the loss, Winnipeg fell to 37-36 and dropped 8 1/2 games behind Fargo in the race for first in the North. With Gary's win over St. Paul, the Goldeyes fell 6 1/2 games back of Gary in the Wild Card race.

The Goldeyes were in it for an inning and a half. After Fargo scored two runs in the bottom of the first, the Goldeyes came back with a pair of runs on the top of the second inning, as Casey Haerther singled and Josh Mazzola walked. Fehlandt Lentini then singled home Haerther and Kevin Moesquit singled home Mazzola as the Goldeyes scored two runs on three hits to tie it.

But that was it. Fargo answered with two more in the bottom of the second on a two-run bomb by Bourquin, and then scored singles in the third, fifth and sixth. The home side then put up a three-spot in the seventh and the Goldeyes were done. Winnipeg finished with just two runs on four hits.

Fargo starter Ethan Opsahl (1-0, 3.07 ERA) got the win, while Edgar Osuna (3-2, 3.03 ERA) was tagged for six runs on nine hits over five innings and took the loss. Fargo's Mackenzie King got his first save of the season.

The Goldeyes will head back to Winnipeg and have Monday off. They'll open a three-game series with the Sioux City Explorers on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. Chris Salamida (1-0, 4.37 ERA) will get the start for Winnipeg.

Tickets for all Goldeyes games are available through Ticketmaster by calling 1-855-GOLDEYE, clicking on Ticketmaster.ca or visiting any Ticketmaster location, including the Shaw Park box office.
