Sioux Falls 6, Kansas City 3

The Canaries overpowered Kansas City Sunday afternoon, using one home run to tie the game and another to go ahead in a 6-3 win.

Sioux Falls took an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first when 1B Marcos Rodriguez and CF Reggie Abercrombie hit a pair of RBI singles. Kansas City went ahead 3-2 in the third on an RBI single from LF Jairo Perez, a run-scoring groundout hit by 3B Matt Padgett and a sacrifice fly from 1B Petey Paramore.

Sioux Falls' bats were dormant until the bottom of the fifth when C Jake Taylor tied the game with a first-pitch solo home run. DH Tim Pahuta hit the go-ahead solo shot in the sixth, making it 4-3, and CF Kevin Dulitz added some insurance with a two-RBI triple in the eighth.

After a rocky second inning, Sioux Falls starter Ben Moore (8-5) settled down and pitched seven innings of three-run ball. Closer Alan DeRatt entered in the ninth and earned his 16th save.

Fargo-Moorhead 10, Winnipeg 2

3B Ronnie Bourquin revved up the RedHawks' offense in the first inning with a two-run home run and provided the go-ahead RBI single in the bottom of the second before Fargo-Moorhead pulled away for 10-2 win.

Bourquin also had an RBI double in the seventh and finished 3-for-5 with a game-high four RBI and two runs scored. RF Jeremiah Piepkorn also homered, clearing the fence on a 1-0 pitch to lead off the home fifth. 2B C.J. Retherford knocked in three runs for the RedHawks with a second inning sacrifice fly and a seventh-inning, two-RBI single. DH Tim Alberts led Fargo-Moorhead with four hits.

The RedHawks paired good hitting with good pitching, as starter Ethan Opsahl (1-0) didn't allow an earned run in six innings. The Goldeyes two runs, both unearned, came in the top of the second when LF Fehlandt Lentini drove in a run with a sacrifice fly and 2B Kevin Moesquit followed with an RBI single. Fargo-Moorhead reliever Mackenzie King kept the Goldeyes scoreless in the game's final three innings to notch his first save.

Gary SouthShore 7, St. Paul 3

A five-run second inning propelled the RailCats past St. Paul, 7-3. The RailCats loaded the bases, and with two outs, RF Mike Massaro worked the count full to draw a walk and score Gary SouthShore's first run. 3B Brian Kolb followed in the next at-bat with a bases-clearing double, and DH Cristian Guerrero capped the two-out rally with an RBI single to give the RailCats a commanding 5-0 lead.

The Saints got back into it in the fourth with a three-run inning, but RailCats' CF Drew Martinez, who had ended the second-inning rally with a fly out in the second, came through in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI single.

Gary SouthShore added one more run in the seventh on a solo home run from Massaro, who finished 1-for-3 with two RBI, two runs scored and two walks. Kolb went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and three RBI.

Gary SouthShore starter Billy Spottiswood (5-1) surrendered two earned runs on seven hits in six innings, and closer Marco Gonzalez pitched a 1-2-3 ninth to earn his eighth save.
