Explorers Take Down Lincoln 5-1

Sioux City-----Richard Salazar allowed just one hit over seven inning and Ryan Pounds had three RBI's with two doubles as the Explorers salvaged the final game of the series with Lincoln with a 5-1 victory.

The only hit Salazar gave up was a two-out solo home run by Curt Smith in the first inning. The southpaw struck out six in recording his seventh win of the season.

Pounds tied the game at 1-1 with a two-out double in the second inning that scored Peter Barrows who had walked.

The Explorers took the lead in the seventh inning after Leugim Barroso led off the inning with a single, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Alberto Espinoso. Anthony Kaskadden then picked up his second hit of the game with a two-out single that score Barroso to give the Explorers a 2-1 lead.

In the eighth inning, the Explorers scored three runs, two of which came on a two-run double by Pounds as the X's would snap a three-game losing streak with the victory. Besides Pounds and Kaskadden, Luke Murton and Peter Barrows also had two hits for the Explorers.

Jimmer Kennedy got the final four outs of the game to pick up his second save of the year.

After an off-day Monday, the Explorers will start a six-game road trip Tuesday with a three-game series at Winnipeg and then three games at St. Paul next weekend. The Explorers will return home on Monday, August 12th at Lewis and Clark Park to host Winnipeg.
