Amarillo ThunderHeads News Release
AMARILLO, TX - The Sox went down early and stayed down against the Lemurs, 7-3 at Amarillo National Bank Sox Stadium. The game lasted two hours and forty-seven minutes as 1,688 fans attended. Brad Wilson started for Amarillo but left in the fourth with a blister on his pitching hand. Wilson ended up with the loss, his ERA dropping to 4.60 on the season.
Greg Wilborn started for Laredo and recorded three strikeouts in the first inning. The Lemurs' offense got the scoring started in the second with runs driven by Brian Peterson, Daniel Poma, and two by Stephen Douglas. The Sox cut the deficit in half during the third with hits and runs scored by Trey Ford and Jason Martin.
Once Brad Wilson walked the first batter in the fourth, he would leave the game with an injury to one of his throwing fingers. Matt Larkins warmed up quickly and his first batter faced was Jimmy Mojica, who tripled in another run for Laredo. Mojica would make it 6-2 when scoring on a grounder to short, two batters later. The bottom of the fifth featured a run for Amarillo which started with a walk to Jorge Delgado. A pair of hits by Cory Patton, the RBI by Chris Grossman, brought Delgado in to score.
The Lemurs tacked on a run in the sixth with a single from John Alonso and RBI-double by Balbino Fuenmayor. The run scored by Alonso and the run score by Mojica in the fourth were both charged to the line of Matt Larkins who went four innings while giving up five hits.
Greg Wilborn allowed two on base in the seventh and would be replaced by Jameson Maj out of the bullpen. Maj retired his two batters faced in that inning as well as outs in order for the eighth. Erik Draxton pitched a one-two-three eighth inning for the Sox and then Cory Patton allowed no runs on a hit in the ninth with one strikeout. In the bottom of the ninth, Chris Valencia led-off with a ground-rule double into the Sox bullpen but would be left stranded. Chad Povich put away the next three batters, including pinch-hitting Adam DeLaGarza, to secure the victory for Laredo.
Greg Wilborn (W, 5-1) pitched six and a third for the Lemurs and allowed three runs, two earned on eight hits. Wilborn walked five batters while retiring six on strikes. Brad Wilson (L, 1-2) gave up five runs on six hits with four walks and one strikeout in three innings pitched.
With the win, the Sox fall to 40-31, while the Lemurs improve to 40-34 on the season, a game and a half behind Amarillo in the South. Monday, the Sox travel to Grand Prairie for the start of a six-game road trip that concludes in El Paso.
