Goldeyes Suffer Second Loss to Capitales

July 25, 2012 - American Association (AA)
Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release

The Beasts from the East continue to have their way with the Winnipeg Goldeyes.

The Goldeyes were thumped 9-3 by the visiting Can-Am League-leading Quebec Capitales Wednesday night before 6,623 fans at Shaw Park.

Winnipeg is now three games behind the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks for first place in the American Association's North Division, but its lead in the wild card remains at three games over the Kansas City T-Bones.

After the two sides exchanged runs in the fourth inning, Quebec scored five runs in the sixth inning and three more in the seventh for a commanding 9-1 lead. The offensive onslaught against Goldeyes pitching was highlighted by a Robert Wagner three-run home run in the sixth inning.

Winnipeg scored single runs in the seventh and eighth innings.

The banged up Goldeyes continue to struggle to score runs against Quebec, as the team has just five runs in its last two games. Winnipeg also left 10 men on base in game.

Winnipeg's starter Ace Walker was cruising through the first five innings, but allowed all five runs in the sixth inning and takes the loss.

Quebec's John Mariotti pitched six innings for the win.

The final game the three-game series goes Thursday afternoon. Winnipeg will start Chris Salamida (2-4, 4.52) while Quebec is expected to counter with Jeff Duda (9-0, 2.29)

The pre-game show on TSN 1290 with Paul Edmonds begins at 11:30 a.m. Game time is 12:00 p.m.
