Sioux City Explorers News Release

Gary, IN-----The Explorers evened the series with Gary in a 5-2 win over the RailCats here Wednesday. It was a combination of good pitching and good hitting that propelled the Explorers to the win. Ty Marotz pitched six and two-thirds innings to pick up his fourth win of the season. Marotz gave up the two runs in the first two innings and after that set the RailCats down until relief pitchers Chuck Lukanen and Chris Bodishbaugh finished the contest. On the hitting side, the Explorers cranked out 14 hits after having only four hits against Gary on Tuesday. Everyone in the lineup had one hit, except Adrian Martinez with Brian Bistange, Peter Barrows, Kris Sanches, Youske Inoguchi, Ray Serrano and Ryan Priddy all getting two hits apiece. With the score tied at 2-2 in the fourth inning, Mike Murphy blasted his first home run of the season that gave the Explorers a 3-2 lead, a lead they never relinquished. On the other hand, the Explorers had several opportunities to put the game away early as the X's left 11 runners on base, including the bases loaded in the sixth inning. With Marotz getting the win, Bodishbaught picked up his 13th save of the season. The final game of the three-game series will be played Thursday at Gary with game time 7:10.
