GARY, Ind. - Sioux City starter Ty Marotz held the RailCats to two runs in 6 2/3 innings en route to a 5-2 win over the RailCats on Wednesday night in front of 2,147 fans at U. S. Steel Yard. The loss drops the RailCats to 29-35 on the season.

Sioux City took the early lead on a two-out RBI single by Kris Sanchez in the first inning against RailCats starter Tyler Deetjen.

Mike Massaro hit a one-out homer to right in the bottom of the first, his team-leading fifth of the season, to tie the game at one. In the second inning, Mike Rohde and Ryan Babineau hit back-to-back singles and Chris Carrara drove home Rohde with a single to give the 'Cats a 2-1 lead.

The Explorers grabbed the lead back in the fourth, as Ryan Priddy hit a sacrifice fly and Mike Murphy followed with a solo shot to left to put the X's on top 3-2. They added a run in the top of the seventh off of Marco Gonzalez when Ray Serrano hit his 22nd double of the season to score Peter Barrows. In the top of the ninth, Yusuke Inoguchi delivered a two out RBI-single to pad the X's lead to 5-2.

Deetjen (1-2) went just four innings for the RailCats, giving up three runs, two of which were earned, on seven hits. Marotz (4-2) pitched 6 2/3 innings for Sioux City, allowing two runs on six hits. After the RailCats scored two early runs, he settled down nicely, allowing just three baserunners after the second inning.

The series rubber match will be on Thirsty Thursday at 7:10. Drafts of Miller Lite and Miller Genuine Draft will be available for just $1 at the concession stand. It will also be Christmas in July, with the one and only Santa Claus appearing at the Steel Yard. The Salvation Army will be collecting clothes and food, and fans who bring those items to the gates will receive $2 off their ticket.
