El Paso Diablos News Release
GRAND PRAIRIE, TX- The Diablos and Grand Prairie Air Hogs combined for six home runs (three each) but it was the home town Hogs that had the last laugh, scoring a run in the bottom of the ninth on David Thomas' RBI single to beat El Paso 7-6.
A night after the Diablos pitched a 2-0 shut out, El Paso got out to another fine start on Wednesday. Reid Fronk and Welington Dotel hit back-to-back solo home runs in the first inning off Grand Prairie starter John Brownell, the first time El Paso has hit consecutive longballs in 2012, to take a 2-0 lead.
Down 2-1 in the third, the Air Hogs responded with back-to-back shots of their own. Trent Lockwood hit an opposite field tater with two outs, and former Diablo Bryan Frichter added his own solo blast the very next at-bat to give the Air Hogs a 3-2 lead.
With the score 5-4 into the fifth, Maikol Gonzalez crushed his third home run of the season (and second at QuikTrip Park) to tie the game. The Air Hogs immediately responded when Greg Porter hit another big fly to left for Grand Prairie, establishing a 6-5 lead.
The Diablos tied the game in the seventh, but could not score the rest of the evening as the Air Hogs eventually pushed a run across against reliever Tim Adleman (0-1) to walk off winners and earn their 40th victory of the season. Justin Dowdy (2-0) pitched a scoreless inning to receive the victory.
El Paso is 25-36 entering the series finale on Thursday. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m. (6:05 p.m. MST).
