Goldeyes Finish Trip 3-3

August 5, 2012 - American Association (AA)
Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release

A .500 road trip ended with disappointment for the Winnipeg Goldeyes Sunday night.

A 6-2 lead evaporated for the Goldeyes during the last three innings, as Winnipeg lost 8-7 to the Sioux City Explorers at Lewis and Clark Park.

The loss, combined with a Kansas City T-Bones victory, drops Winnipeg's lead in the wild card race to two games.

Wally Backman Jr. hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning for Sioux City, but Winnipeg then rattled off six consecutive runs to take control of the game.

Chris Roberson singled in Price Kendall in the third inning and then the Goldeyes slapped four runs via four hits on the board in the fifth inning. Yurendell de Caster singled in Jose Duran an inning later to give Winnipeg a 6-2 lead.

Sioux City battled back with three runs in the seventh and three more in the eighth to re-take the lead at 8-6.

The Goldeyes got a run back in the eighth when Jon Weber singled home Kendall, but Winnipeg's comeback bid fell short for a second straight night.

Roberson extended his hitting streak to 19 games with two hits.

Ace Walker went five and two-thirds innings to start the game for Winnipeg, but takes a no decision. Zach Baldwin suffered the loss after pitching a third of an inning of relief.

Andrew Snowdon picked up the win for the Explorers, while Chad Bodishbaugh earned his 17th save of the season.

The Goldeyes return home to begin a six-game homestand Monday night with the first of three games against the Sioux Falls Pheasants.

The pre-game show on TSN 1290 with Paul Edmonds begins at 6:30 p.m. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
