St. Paul Saints News Release

GARY, IN (August 5, 2012) - The story is becoming all too familiar for the St. Paul Saints. Take a lead late in the ballgame, but watch the other team come back for the victory. That scenario played out in game one of the double header against the Gary SouthShore Railcats on Sunday afternoon at U.S. Steel Yard as the Saints lost 7-5.

With the game tied at four in the top of the sixth, of the scheduled seven inning game, Miles Durham led off with a walk. He stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch. With one out Jon Townsend gave the Saints a 5-4 lead with a sacrifice fly.

The lead didn't last long as the Railcats jumped on Saints reliever Chris Odegaard in the bottom of the sixth. Odegaard started the inning by walking the first two hitters he faced. After a sacrifice bunt by David Cooper advanced the runners, Adam Klein lined a single to right scoring both runners to give the Railcats a 6-5 lead. Klein advanced to second on a groundout and scored on a single by Mike Coles giving the Railcats a two run cushion.

The teams traded runs early on with the Saints scoring one run in each of the first four innings off of former Saints pitcher Alberto Rolon. The Railcats, however, answered with two in the first and one in the second and third off of Saints starter Anthony Claggett.

The loss for the Saints was their fourth in a row tying a season long mark, which they have done twice.

Game two of the double header is scheduled for seven innings and will match Saints RHP Robert Coe (9-3, 3.30) against Railcats RHP Stephen Hiscock (3-4, 2.70). The game can be heard on Club 1220 KLBB.
